Default Android Media Player has many limitations. Even the default player in many high end phones won’t support some video formats. So it is very important install a multi-format media player. There is a lot of media players available for Android phones. But which is the best one that can play all videos? The answer is here -
MoboPlayer is one the best video player for Android which plays almost all multimedia formats. It has a very beautiful thumbnail display. You can play DivX, AVIs, Windows media (wmv) files in good quality. It displays subtitles also. You can change the screen resolution of the videos -16:9, 4:3 and default size.
MoboPlayer will run on almost all android devices. It has different optimized codec packages for different device platforms. After installing Mobo Player, it will automatically download and install codec for your hardware. This will give enhanced performance. Mobo player uses FFmpeg decoder. To play videos you have to choose the media directories from MoboPlayer file manager. After choosing the directory, it will generate thumbnails and add media files to the playlist. For some formats, you have to do long press on the thumbnail and select software decoding to play the video. By checking “Default Using Soft-Decoding” from settings, you play all videos on tapping the thumbnail.

Hi. Could you ‘replace’ the default player by this one so that it is the preferred application for playing videos?
I am a newbie when it comes to playing video on evo htc. After downloading moboplayer and opening it, it asked to choose the media directory. My only choices were actual image files and a divx video I had downloaded, which would not be selected when chosen. Where do I find a possible directory and how do I get to it? No navigation paths apparent.
For Kai, if you haven’t found a solution yet. My phone isn’t stock so ymmv. You can install Mobo player and go into your settings-applications-manage applications and scroll down to video player and tap on it. The on the bottom of the screen should be the option to clear defaults. Now when you click to open a video file, you should be able to select which program you want to open it and there should be a box underneath asking if you want to make it the default. Now the default way to open that file type is set. Now there is a way to actually replace the stock video player, but it takes more knowledge of the inner workings of Android then I possess. I think it’s adb push or something similar.
Just purchased Toshiba thrive and downloaded mobo player and it will play mov files however it will not play avi files. Can you help
Thanks
Use software decoding – Long press the thumbnail and select software decoding option.
You need not replace default player with new player. While playing a file you can mention which player you want as default for all videos. Thats it.
